There is an attempted romanticising of something that doesn't deserve it. I think this is what I was trying to say above.

There's some great '70s music, by the way, but I'm in the same place you are with the genre of rock we're given here. I, like you, thought it was fine, well-acted, well-written, but I didn't really love the characters or care much about the world of the film. Part of it might be the way it does have a romantic view of it, without exploring the more seedy aspects (and the 70s music scene was certainly seedy). Also, my music taste, though eclectic, doesn't really include 70s rock bands, so I wasn't enthused by the music, despite it being well done.Julia Machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09041411551162128922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-29755126543826439762018-12-24T20:50:46.065-06:002018-12-24T20:50:46.065-06:00I do need to get to that one one of these days.

I was hoping it would be about my favorite Burl Ives film. Instead it is about a film starring great actors portraying not so-great characters that I really wasn't happy spending any time with. While the backstory alone to the Burl Ives film would have made a much better film than "Almost Famous." And Hans, Folsom, Son, Duke, and Buster were robbed of the best actor Oscar, or maybe Hans, Folsom, Son, and Buster were robbed while Duke was just really playing himself.John from Daejeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08431973044799010218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-58300618207208556022018-12-23T14:33:47.017-06:002018-12-23T14:33:47.017-06:00I'm pretty sure it was the theatrical version ...I'm pretty sure it was the theatrical version (roughly two hours long).

Honestly, the biggest issue I have with it is that for whatever reason, I find live music ultimately depressing, and that's so much a part of this film.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-17165643257770487112018-12-23T09:54:14.082-06:002018-12-23T09:54:14.082-06:00Did you watch the original or the Director's C...Did you watch the original or the Director's Cut? I saw the original and really liked it. Then a few years later took my wife to a friend's house to watch the movie and he, unbeknownst to us, played the Director's Cut which was loooong and interminable. That's not to say that you wouldn't find the characters annoying in both versions, only that it's a lot easier to take them when you have limited exposure. :-)Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.com
