I think it's very good, but I'm not sure that it's required viewing beyond McConaughey and Leto.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-64920371455750208922014-08-06T20:19:37.413-05:002014-08-06T20:19:37.413-05:00Of the nominations this film received the one for ...Of the nominations this film received the one for Best Original Screenplay left me scratching my head. The bad guys are all one-dimensional, the "love interest" is filler, even Rayon is only two dimensional. If it were not for Leto's performance people would be realizing that when the film got done the character was still really only there to service McConaughey's character's story. The only scene specific to Rayon I remember is the meeting with the father.

I didn't have the trouble with taking McConaughey seriously because I had caught him early in his career before he was that big and was mostly known for going shirtless and being in romantic comedies. I agree with Nick on the other recent McConaughey films that had good performances from him, especially Mud.

And for what it's worth, if the information I received this evening turns out to be correct, this film is not making the latest edition of the 1,001 Movies list. This, Mud, Killer Joe, and his brief appearance in Wolf of Wall Street are the most notable. And, of course, True Detective. Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08092564511948736386noreply@blogger.com
