It's Egyptian neo-realism.

I agree that it's a hell of a movie. I also agree that the List is worth pursuing because of movies like this one that would be otherwise easily overlooked.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-88663802267931834192017-02-27T14:33:05.056-06:002017-02-27T14:33:05.056-06:00"Cairo Station" has been one of the most..."Cairo Station" has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the whole 1001 List experience. I had no idea that the Egyptians are the Italians of the Muslim world!

"Cairo Station" struck me as the movie that would result if Rossellini and Fellini had decided to collaborate on a film noir type film.

I'm sure a lot of that stems from the time period and the way movies looked in 1958.

Anyway, it's a great movie. Films like "Cairo Station" are why I'm sticking with the List, as long as can keep finding the movies, anyway.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-47414239682076802142016-08-08T07:07:35.730-05:002016-08-08T07:07:35.730-05:00Right--it's a reminder that while most of us l...Right--it's a reminder that while most of us look at film as a medium of entertainment, it's still got the potential to be art, and still has the potential to be a lot more.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-30722664757538358832016-08-08T05:33:30.471-05:002016-08-08T05:33:30.471-05:00I can certainly see why a conservative minded powe...I can certainly see why a conservative minded power elite would want to subdue this picture. The signals here are far too disturbing. Youth culture has always been considered dangerous and it probably shows an underbelly they would rather ignore.
I did not know Chahine both directed and acted. I'm a little sad he didn't do a lot more in front of the camera, because he obviously had the chops.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-72770839320332199982012-12-05T11:19:08.758-06:002012-12-05T11:19:08.758-06:00I was shocked when I watched this. You are correct that Hanuma seems to bring on most of her problems. She was unknowingly complicit in so much tragedy.Kimberly J.M.
