It's hardly a shock that this would express itself in our entertainment.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-67114919812692655752015-07-10T11:39:43.158-05:002015-07-10T11:39:43.158-05:00And that gay or lesbian sex sets them off even mor...And that gay or lesbian sex sets them off even more. I remember the side by side shots of nearly identical heterosexual sex scenes that got R ratings and homosexual sex scenes that got NC-17s.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-54817921261742454002015-07-10T10:35:39.319-05:002015-07-10T10:35:39.319-05:00I liked This Film Is Not Yet Rated. It's an interesting feature of the American film industry that sex is so heavily edited and frowned upon while violence is glorified--the film makes the case that it's even less about sex itself and more about women experiencing pleasure from sex that gets cut, with Boys Don't Cry being fairly central to that thesis.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-54587550468284514742015-07-10T09:58:39.603-05:002015-07-10T09:58:39.603-05:00I agree there are good performances in this film, ...I agree there are good performances in this film, but that it is a tough watch.

The director of it was in the doc This Film Is Not Yet Rated about the hypocrisy of the MPAA. She pointed out that they made her reduce or remove a scene where one of the women has an orgasm, otherwise they would have given it an NC-17. They had no problem whatsoever with the scene where someone's brains get graphically blown out by a gun.

In regards to Swank's movies, you can add The Next Karate Kid to the list of "the" films that sucked. The Gift and The Black Dahlia are not that bad.

In regards to Sevigny, she seems to go out of her way to pick risky or edgy roles right from her first film - Kids. There's a miniseries in my Netflix Instant queue I haven't seen yet where she plays a hitwoman...who is also a man in the process of transitioning to a woman. It's called Hit & Miss.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
