I bought the DVD years ago, but I still have never gotten around to watching it, so it's actually been a good 25 years since I saw this movie. I'll certainly get around to watching it again someday.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-44185462551039871162012-07-04T19:10:26.668-05:002012-07-04T19:10:26.668-05:00Blue Velvet is one of those films that everyone re...Blue Velvet is one of those films that everyone really should see. If you hate it, well, at least you've seen it. If you don't, it's something worth revisiting every ten years, maybe. While I enjoyed this viewing, I'm probably good on this film for the rest of this decade.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-41415350778514391942012-07-04T18:46:35.120-05:002012-07-04T18:46:35.120-05:00"Lynch is a weird bastard "
Amen. But G..."Lynch is a weird bastard "

Amen. But God bless him. Even if his narratives can be rather messy, the guy knows how to set up a scene.

I agree with your review for the most part. And while Blue Velvet is far from amazing, it certainly is something that needs to be seen. One of the only reasons I actually finally got around to watching it was because of all the hype. And I did not necessarily dislike it, I just don't see myself revisiting it anytime soon.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08461049654345906648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-60135696410376124182012-07-04T10:22:34.174-05:002012-07-04T10:22:34.174-05:00High praise, indeed! According to rumor, Hopper was not allowed to veer off script by a single word. The fact that his performance is still this good is a testament to him and to the overall vision Lynch was trying to achieve.

For what it is, I have a soft spot for Dune. Part of that is my love for the book. Part of that is, well, just because.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-91831189973945061602012-07-04T09:45:54.532-05:002012-07-04T09:45:54.532-05:00If I was given the right to bring ten films to a d...If I was given the right to bring ten films to a desert island, Blue Velvet would be one of these. Not only I think it's the best Lynch, I think it's one of the best movies ever (and I've seen way past 1000 movies in my life, studied cinema and all). It was made at a low point in Lynch's career too. DUNE has flunked and nobody wanted to fund his films anymore. Dino De Laurentis did, because he felt responsible for DUNE's failure. It showed Lynch to himself, highlighted what he was best at. A smaller film, where he had complete creative control. I watched it maybe 20 times. Half of these were times I sat with friends and said: "You HAVE to watch it. It's way too fucking awesome."Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11483490020980574428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-44447302514582985282012-07-03T21:53:55.929-05:002012-07-03T21:53:55.929-05:00@sio--I think you'll like it. I mean, it ranks right up there as one of the best photographed black and white I think I've ever seen. And Elephant Man is just heartbreaking. Dune is weird, I still don't wholly know what's going on, and I've seen it at least three times, but it's crazy iconic. Yeah, Lynch is a little weird. But that's okay!siochembiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11487373396181856763noreply@blogger.com
