I've been wanting to see it for decades. I knew a lot of film buffs when I lived in Los Angeles in the 1990s and I remember all the folks who liked classic foreign films seemed to always recommend this one.

I seem to have liked it a lot better than the other commenters, but then I'm a sucker for Italian movies in general, especially since I finally developed an appreciation for Antonioni.

Even thought I liked it OK, I'm not rushing to change any of my Top Ten lists. My favorite Italian director is still Fellini and my favorite Visconti film is still The Damned.Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-40956846140942271582017-01-17T09:40:53.160-06:002017-01-17T09:40:53.160-06:00I get that. I just think that Visconti had good reason for doing so given that the members of the family serves as symbols. The problem is just that this sort of symbolism kind of ruins the movie.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-3733062602191147922012-10-10T21:29:25.866-05:002012-10-10T21:29:25.866-05:00Every now and then, when I dislike something or fi...Every now and then, when I dislike something or find it silly, I feel a little guilty until someone confirms that I'm not a complete idiot for thinking that.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-43892981122465494952012-10-10T19:53:16.227-05:002012-10-10T19:53:16.227-05:00I just got done watching this. I even started chuckling at one point during what was supposed to be a dramatic scene because it felt so ridiculous. In addition, while I can believe Simone's badness, Rocco was so virtuous and forgiving that he wasn't real.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-74416202138012925562012-10-06T12:40:44.300-05:002012-10-06T12:40:44.300-05:00Great comparison! There are parts that I found completely distasteful and others that touched me, but I don't recall these feelings being evenly balanced.Kimberly J.M.
