I do like moder...Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. I do like modern horror films, but I tend to like ones that go for something deeper than the gross-out a lot more. I don't mind gore, but I also don't seek it out. It's one of the reasons I like Guillermo del Toro as much as I do--he really tries to go for a deeper level of horror, and the gore he uses fits with the film and within the story. Usually they run to be more unsettling because much is left to the imagination. <br /><br />This is more of a thriller with the question being how long will it take Anna Lee to escape Karloff's machinations. That it manages to be as engaging as it is can be laid squarely at Lewton & Karloff-and to a lesser extent Anna Lee's-feet.
