There is some justice after all.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-33736250933458255062017-01-30T13:38:00.447-06:002017-01-30T13:38:00.447-06:00I don't completely disagree with you, which is...I don't completely disagree with you, which is why I put The Adventures of Robin Hood as a potential right choice here. It absolutely is the sort of movie that makes people love movies. It's fun and full of action. It's joyous and vibrant and wonderful. It is my favorite movie that was actually released in 1938. Put Grand Illusion in the year it was actually nominated, and I'm with you all the way.

I thought about Marie Antoinette, but I found it overlong. It's pretty and both Norma Shearer and Robert Morley are great, but I don't really love it as a movie. Everything about it is so vibrant, including the cast, only highlighted by the vivid colors.

In regards to the others I'd hack off everything below number 4 on your list. In lieu of that you're rankings are pretty accurate though I'd drop You Can't Take It With You to dead last, I hate that movie!

As to what's missing beside what you've mentioned I'd say both Holiday and Marie Antoinette are far better than anything but the top three.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-32807023054581129472017-01-30T10:20:48.927-06:002017-01-30T10:20:48.927-06:00The Adventures of Robin Hood is about as pure of a...The Adventures of Robin Hood is about as pure of an adventure film as I can think of. There's such a joy to it and it casts such a long shadow. Jezebel, though, is a hell of a film. I don't object to it being moved up that much.

The Lady Vanishes got added to the complete list when they did the giant revamp in 2013.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-52751091718053451392017-01-30T10:06:19.994-06:002017-01-30T10:06:19.994-06:00Cannot disagree with you on your number one. That ...Cannot disagree with you on your number one. That would be my pick as well. I would place Jezebel above Robin Hood because it is simple a better worked out story. Robin Hood does come about a bit odd in places, but survives on its dazzling colors and sheer joy. Lady Vanishes is my undisbuted number four. That is the best movie Hitchcock made while in Europe and one that could replaces three or four of his entries on the list.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.com
