She is ambitious, but also ruthless. She has principles on some accounts, but not others. She associate with The Dancing Kid although he robs a bank. That is a lot more complex than the usual black and white western characters, as if Ray is saying that nobody is perfectly good, but some are worse than others.
But curious how this movie polarize the viewers.TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-11481262072106718012012-05-24T07:08:38.450-05:002012-05-24T07:08:38.450-05:00Winchester '73 was the start of the Western an...Winchester '73 was the start of the Western anti-hero in many ways. Jimmy Stewart played a man out to kill his own brother for revenge, and more than once, Stewart's Lin McAdam is on the verge of a killing spree. It was the first non-Boy Scout hero in many ways, and particularly interesting from the up to that point very Boy Scout-y Stewart.

Without it, we'd never get The Searchers in which John Wayne's Ethan is openly racist but still the hero.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-59816570070104424652012-05-24T01:58:18.846-05:002012-05-24T01:58:18.846-05:00I watched Winchester '73 last month,it is so b...I watched Winchester '73 last month,it is so boring with me,the only thing new is they have a gun as a Macguffin.anything else is still so conventional.

Unforgiven is a good one because the anti-hero quality in the Eastwood character.Davidhttp://www.tasteofcinema.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-59164264169911745672012-05-23T08:07:30.911-05:002012-05-23T08:07:30.911-05:00I never knew that about Godard, but now I wonder, ...I never knew that about Godard, but now I wonder, too. I also really liked The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
