Garson is entertaining and Susie Parkington is easy to like, especially as an old firebrand.

And, of course Agnes Moorehead is a reveleation here. I've always liked her, but this is a film that really demonstrates her range.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-84356511948861001612016-02-02T09:41:26.054-06:002016-02-02T09:41:26.054-06:00I wanted to love this but ended up thinking it was...I wanted to love this but ended up thinking it was just okay. It's the sort of film I usually really enjoy but perhaps because so many of the characters were unpleasant people it was a drag.

As you pointed out the two people who were worth watching and rooting for were Garson and Agnes Moorehead. It's a great part for Greer but I think the show piece is Agnes' Aspasia. I've read that she fought for the role to ward off being typecast exclusively as the ruthless bitch and ended up rewarded with an Oscar nomination. It did enable her to bounce back and forth though I think thanks to Bewitched she mainly remembered today as a more troublesome character. That's a pity since she was capable of great depth of emotion.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.com
