The List is really lax on some of the great early comedians, and still has only one Valentino film (and not the right one).SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-78960077622669584412018-12-27T21:25:40.786-06:002018-12-27T21:25:40.786-06:00The Dirty Dozen springs to mind. This is relevant to the discussion because I have long thought that the early Italian cinema should be represented on the List. Before Birth of a Nation, filmmakers in Italy produced a bunch of feature films, some of which are very impressive. It has always surprised me that the List has ignored very early Italian cinema despite finding room for films like Gertrud and Louisiana Story.

I am not an expert on these early films, so I'm not really sure which Italian film from 1911 to 1915 is the best choice, but of the few I've seen, I would suggest either Dante's Inferno (1911) or Cabiria (1914).Tonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17921029597363212734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-40924875928012094472018-12-27T06:33:38.256-06:002018-12-27T06:33:38.256-06:00This is a fun exercise and while none of these are...This is a fun exercise and while none of these are on my List, mostly because I have seen only one of them, I can definitely see that there is still a lot to watch. This Sporting Life was definitely a miss when I went through that year. I'm a bit surprised Hotel Rwanda was never in any edition of the book, either. You see what a small number 1,001 is in this context when you have to take some movies out to add others. I guess we could probably lose Vinyl and Blonde Cobra.1001: A Film Odyssey is produced, directed and written by Chris, a librarian.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04803620768028761898noreply@blogger.com
