Of course, one of the reasons I haven't seen the remake is that I already wasn't that enthused about it.

Roddy McDowell is one of my favorite parts of this movie. He gets that role exactly right in tone.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-46123981789365383862017-08-03T20:31:19.125-05:002017-08-03T20:31:19.125-05:00Yes, I love this movie. Add in the sadly now nearly extinct campy local TV horror show setting for extra awesomeness.

The remake was indeed a letdown.Ipecachttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15157560182505626755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-12109238708287272542017-08-03T00:02:07.412-05:002017-08-03T00:02:07.412-05:00Yeah, I'm a lot more willing to forgive ambiti...Yeah, I'm a lot more willing to forgive ambition that doesn't quite pan out rather than not having enough ideas to fill a story.

It's a good point about it being self-aware. The Lost Boys has some similar qualities, but this came first by a couple of years. Sure, everyone knew they didn't exist, but everyone was also familiar with vampire lore and had seen tons of vampire movies. It was also the first vampire movie I can remember that didn't just put the monster into a modern setting, but made him someone who has learned how to blend in as much as possible. He's not some cape-and-tuxedo-wearing dude with a heavy accent. He looks like he belongs in the same era in which the movie is set.

I agree it has lots of things going on, and at times it can be too much. However, the remake has the opposite issue. It's almost devoid of ideas, opting instead for a higher body count. It isn't totally terrible, but it's not really good, either.Dellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05634519605152190304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-84173289748784271022017-08-02T22:59:29.203-05:002017-08-02T22:59:29.203-05:00I've got a review of the 1988 Blob somewhere a...I've got a review of the 1988 Blob somewhere around here. I enjoyed it, too, mostly because it upped the gore from the original and did it really well. It's worth watching just to see how good the original really is in comparison, and to see all that great acting talent somehow wasted.

For some reason, I really like this film as I do the 1988 remake of "The Blob" with Shawnee Smith and that other Dillon brother (being in high school and having films with high school age actors might have had something to do with it). As with the "Fright Night" remake, I don't have high hopes for the Halle Berry and Samuel L. I like this one even though it's overstuffed with ideas in large part because this is right around senior year in high school for me. It's just a shame the recent remake with Dr. Who was such a let down.John from Daejeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08431973044799010218noreply@blogger.com
