You're right that there are some comedic elements to this film, so he may wanted to have kept that mood as much as possible.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-90646967957347043732014-01-22T04:30:53.389-06:002014-01-22T04:30:53.389-06:00I actually forgot about the strangled musician. At the time it felt absurd as if he was strangled for comedic effect, but in hindsight of course it makes perfect sense.
I think that the lack of overt violence and death of vital player may be partly ascribed to this being a comedy more than a thriller and partly because Hitchcock took some heat for blowing up the child in Sabotage. I guess he felt that was not such a bright move.
TSorensenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12208153011927807857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-43075097759219289382013-09-25T23:30:11.719-05:002013-09-25T23:30:11.719-05:00That's sort of where I am. It's a mid-range Hitchcock film, which makes it pretty good, but there are plenty of better ones.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-64818036913378138902013-09-25T21:15:36.558-05:002013-09-25T21:15:36.558-05:00I had seen the Jodie Foster film Flightplan (essen...I had seen the Jodie Foster film Flightplan (essentially an uncredited remake) not long before I saw The Lady Vanishes. That diluted the impact of the older film. I agree this is better than The 39 Steps, but I wouldn't put it among any of my favorite Hitchcock films.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.com
