The problem with Allen as an actor...I can see that. The problem with Allen as an actor is that he's always the same. I enjoy him as an actor far more in his earlier work.

This film for me is in many ways about the cast. There are a lot of people I really like who don't do a ton of movie work. And I agree--the Martin Landau section is far more interesting in almost every way. The story is better for one, and the neuroses are a lot more understandable, at least to me. Landau's plight is much more gripping. Allen's plight is, essentially, that he wants to get laid, as usual.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-32793678511844542392012-01-16T08:10:50.378-06:002012-01-16T08:10:50.378-06:00Good review. The Martin Landau portion was what kept my interest. Allen is a great writer and director, but after seeing quite a few of his films, I've grown tired of him onscreen. Perhaps that's why I've liked most of his recent films.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-74814738116640937912012-01-15T09:49:44.323-06:002012-01-15T09:49:44.323-06:00I think you'll like it. Neuroses are played for pain rather than comedy here. And yet I think you'll know it's Woody Allen all the way through--and would even if Allen himself were not in the picture.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3166297507174717122.post-87508219561825893282012-01-15T00:59:56.264-06:002012-01-15T00:59:56.264-06:00Your review has me excited Steve. My mother bought this for Christmas for me.

Having seen most of Allen's "acclaimed" films, this is one I'm actively looking forward to.Sam Fragosohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09974858608988634583noreply@blogger.com
