The Return

So I'm back...sorta.

We had a lot of things happen all at the same time a few weeks ago, and while all of those issues aren't entirely dealt with, enough of them are that I think I can start posting a little more regularly again. The girls have been picked up from their summer programs, the older child has moved out, school is about to restart for both kids, and I've made it through a couple of absolutely hellish weeks at work. So, I may not be back to a post a day, but I'll be back to more than one or two per week.

Thanks to everyone who stayed with me. Talk to you soon.

  1. Welcome back! So they make you work even during summer vacation, eh? My buddy who teaches in Bucks County, PA (where "Signs" is set) has a whole truckload of admin responsibilities beyond teaching, especially now that he's been at that college for years and years.

    1. We don't do summer vacation. We do 11 weeks on, 1 week of inservice, one week off through the year, with two weeks off around Christmas.

Honestly, I don't complain. I get five weeks of paid vacation.

  2. You'd love the Korean university system—if you enjoy long vacations, that is. The better unis here offer four calendar months' paid vacation: two summer, two winter. I'm currently an office prole, a corporate monkey with the standard two weeks plus national holidays, at least until I've paid off all my debt. I hope to get back into university teaching in a few years. Long breaks are a huge perk for me. That said, five weeks' paid vacation is indeed nothing to complain about. It's the French standard, after all!

    1. Yeah, I really don't bitch too much--I've gotten that much vacation from day one of being full time.

I actually don't love long vacations. I feel like I get out of a groove if I don't have something specific to work on.

  3. These things always happen in waves. Murphy's law or a derivate of it I suppose. Good to have you back.

    1. Yeah, there are times when life takes over. It's been a weird three or four weeks. I've seriously not watched more than a movie or two since late July.
