What I've Caught Up With, March 2026 Part 2

I had planned to finish the show Evil by the end of the month as my workout show, but an injury kept me out of the gym for a couple of weeks, so I’m still a week or so away from finishing. I did cross off a few large shows in March, though. I got through The Ray Bradbury Theater, a show that had some significant high points and a few low points. I also finished The Good Wife, all 156 episodes, a show I’ve been watching for months. And, on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of speed, I burned through The Dragon Prince on NetFlix—a show that has some interesting similarities to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Strong recommend.

What I've Caught Up With, March 2026 Part 1

My stated goal every year is to watch 400 movies, and every month I fall a little more behind on that goal. Hitting that goal looks like 34 movies in March and I watched 30, which puts me at an average of a movie per day exactly right now. It seems like fate that I set that goal and always fall a little short of it. Still, it was a good month and I watched a lot of pretty good films and a few real stinkers.

What I've Caught Up With, February 2026 Part 2

Television-wise, I didn't finish a lot of shows. I completed Jessica Jones. I had watched the first season years ago but never completed the series. I rewatched Season 1 and then the rest of the show. I also caught up with the second season of Hazbin Hotel. My current workout show is Evil, which is essentially the X-Files if it were Catholic. I'm also most of the way through The Good Wife. Interestingly, Mike Colter has a few appearances on Jessica Jones, is a regular on The Good Wife, and a main character on Evil. Other than that, I'm slowly getting through Babylon 5.

What I've Caught Up With, February 2026 Part 1

My yearly goal for movies is 400, which is less than it sounds. To be on pace, I should be at 64 movies at the end of February. I'm a touch behind at 60, but not terribly behind. I'm hoping to catch up a few in March. If I get 34 movies, I'm keeping pace; more than that and I'm catching up. This was a month where I got a lot done in terms of taking movies off the various lists. In the next few months, there may be less, because I'll be looking more at Oscar movies, at least for a bit.

What I've Caught Up With, January 2026 Part 2

I watched some television in January as well. I finished a show from Shudder called Horror's Greatest, and it was a decent look at different aspects of the horror genre. I also finished the Fargo television show as my workout show, and I cannot recommend the show enough. Even if the stories weren't great (and they are), the cast list is one of the most impressive ever put together. The most out-of-the-norm show I watched was the She-Ra cartoon series that is soon being removed from NetFlix. Normally, that's not really my speed, but when an openly pro-gay, pro-trans, pro-feminist show that is not completely transferred to discs is about to disappear, potentially forever, I think it's important to watch.

What I've Caught Up With, January 2026 Part 1

My stated goal—usually one that I fall very short on—is to watch 400 movies every year. That sounds like a lot, but it’s a movie a day plus three movies per month (2 in February). That being the case, I need to watch 34 movies in January to be on pace. I watched 31, so I’m a touch behind, but not terribly so, and it feels like something easily surmountable. I did watch a ton of movies off the big list of stuff to catch up on, so that’s a help.

What I've Caught Up With, December 2025 Part 2

When it comes to catching up on television, I knocked out some big shows in December. These include Batman: The Animated Series and the follow-up, The New Batman Adventures (same voice cast, more stylized art). I also finished both Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks: The Return. The biggest removal, though was Lucifer. It's a fun show, but as often seems to be the case, it started to drag once it moved from network TV to NetFlix.

What I've Caught Up With, December 2025 Part 1

I realize that January 1 of any year is an arbitrary place to start making changes, but it does feel somehow natural. As always, my goal is always to watch 400 movies over the course of the year. Mathematically, this works out to one movie per day plus three additional movies per month. It’s not that much, and yet it’s a goal that I almost always fall short on.

What I've Caught Up With, November 2025

I didn’t watch a lot of movies in November. I’ve been more or less struggling to return to normalcy in my own life, and that’s meant finding ways to disconnect from things that have been stressing me out. In some odd ways, this blog can be a real stressor—trying to keep up with films and catch up with films has me constantly feeling like I am always behind. That’s silly, but we put stress on ourselves in different ways and for different reasons all the time.

I spent far more time catching up on TV shows, although I only finished a couple. I did a rewatch of the NetFlix/Disney Daredevil since I realized I had never seen the third season. I also watched Helstrom, which is the one Marvel-based show you can easily skip if you decide to watch all of the Marvel content. My wife decided she wants to watch the new Dexter, so we temporarily have a Paramount account; I’m using this as an opportunity to finally watch Twin Peaks.

What I've Caught Up With, October 2025 Part 2

On the television front, I’ve been pushing toward getting through the MCU shows more out of a sense of completeness than anything else. The biggest of these is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which I just wrapped up. I also watched Channel Zero as my workout show for October. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s sort of the Hydrox-not-Oreo version of American Horror Story. The seasons are shorter (six episodes each), and a lot more focused. While it doesn’t have the star power, the stories are pretty good, with season 2 being the highlight.

What I've Caught Up With, October 2025 Part 1

So, 2025 continues to be the worst year I’ve had in a long time—my father succumbed to dementia near the end of the month. Honestly, he’d been more or less gone for the past year—this felt more like closing a door that was already swinging shut. I did take out a few films, though—I seem to be focusing more on science fiction right now. I don’t know if that’s a metaphor.

What I've Caught Up With, September 2025 Part 2

In August, I watched a number of shows, but didn’t complete any. That changed in September. I finished The Owl House and the first (and currently only) season of Batman: Caped Crusader. I also made my way through Succession, and finally got through The Expanse as my workout show.

The kerfuffle regarding Disney/Hulu and Jimmy Kimmel was distressing for a number of reasons. We were on the verge of cancelling both when Kimmel was brought back—and while I didn’t cancel either service, I did actually write and mail a physical letter to Disney. So far, no response, but that’s not too surprising. It has made me think that I will be pushing my way through a lot of Disney/Hulu over the next few months in the hopes of actually fully and finally cancelling both services.

What I've Caught Up With, September 2025 Part 1

September was, as seems to be the theme this year, not a great month. Professionally, it was fine, but personally, it looks like 2025 will be the year that I lose both of my parents, as my dad is now on hospice. Despite this, I did knock a few films off the list.

What I've Caught Up With, August 2025

August was an interesting month, and I didn’t watch a ton of movies. I also didn’t actually get through a full television series. Not a great deal to say, honestly. As the sign says on my office door, I can’t wait until we get back to normal fucked up instead of super fucked up.

What I've Caught Up With, July 2025 Part 2

While I slacked off with movies in the second half of the month, I watched a ton of television, focusing on shorter shows in general. I finished the rebooted Battlestar Galactica right at the start of the month, and while it’s good, it’s also one of the bleakest shows I have ever seen. I finished The Irrational, a show that really should have gotten a third season, and also completed the fourth and final season of The Righteous Gemstones—the end of this feels like a step down, but it's a solid series all the way through. At the end of the month, I went on a huge TV kick, watching the second season of The Last of Us, finishing the NetFlix series Derry Girls, and watching both seasons of the animated Star Trek cartoons. I’m recommitting to the MCU and watched Agent Carter. Finally, I watched the first season of High Potential, and I’m looking forward to season 2.

What I've Caught Up With, July 2025 Part 1

July was a month of two halves for me. The first half of the month, I watched a lot of movies, but I hit a wall and watched almost nothing in the second half. In fact, I barely looked at this blog (I’ll catch up on comments, I promise). I won’t bore anyone with reasons for this. Ultimately, I just never felt in the mood to spend that much time watching something. I’m at just under 200 movies on the year, which is off the pace I wanted, but I’m deciding that’s okay and I’m not going to pressure myself to catch up.

What I've Caught Up With June 2025 Part 2

On the television front, I knocked out a few bigger shows. I finished Detroiters—not a long show, but one filled with cringe, so sometimes difficult to get through. I caught up on the latest season of Doctor Who, and also finished Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, including the final movie. I’ve also finished a full watch of the original Star Trek series, a couple of episodes at a time on Saturdays. The biggest show I completed, though was The West Wing—I found the final season a slog to get through, but I did finally get through it.

What I've Caught Up With, June 2025 Part 1

I didn’t knock a lot of movies off the giant list in June (although I did finally get the number down to three digits, at least temporarily). For whatever reason, the movies I did watch, almost to a film, had long names, forcing me to break this up into two posts. On the personal front, I’ve gotten through all of the scanning of my mother’s photographs and slides. Now I have all of the scrapbooks. It never ends.

What I've Caught Up With, May 2025

I'm slowly getting back into watching movies again, although I'm still hip-deep in dealing with my mom's estate. Just when I thought I'd gotten all of the pictures sorted, I was given a couple of thousand slides to go through as well. It feels never ending. Television-wise, I finished The Critic (don't watch the 10 season 3 webisodes--seriously) and caught up on the current series of Black Mirror. I'm in the middle of season 6 of the West Wing now. Sadly, my workout show (Battlestar Galactica) stopped streaming, so I've had to switch to The Expanse.

What I've Caught Up With, April 2025

It’s probably not much of a surprise that I didn’t actually watch a lot of movies or television in April. My mother’s funeral service was a week ago, and things have been hectic. Watching a movie seems less easy to do right now, but it’s time to get back into things, I think.

Television-wise, the only show I actually completed was the latest season of Reacher. I have been watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, The West Wing, and The Critic, but lately, my viewing is pretty much down across the board.
